This would be a dangerous place for me to live. A place where there is such a disparity in wealth that maids and servants are at your beck and call to do all the menial things in life. But its those menial tasks, making of food, cleaning dishes, driving a car, doing your laundry, that give me function and a sense of accomplishment during the day. Without them I wither and shrink into my room and cant even be bothered to come out. I hate it here. I hate not being able to open the front door and go out without having the have the maid come and lock it behind me and then open it again when I return. I hate not being able to just go somewhere without having to deal with endless crazy traffic, with people staring, crowds and filth on the streets- trying to explain to drivers where you are trying to go, the heat and dirt and constant noise.

I understand what you're saying about daily chores. I lived in Pakistan for about two years, and I did end up shrinking back into my room:p I think with countries like these, you need to look at other things (philanthropy, job opportunities, a new language, the people, the great scenery)

I know what you mean by just walking around like a normal person, though.

i was only there for a month. Yep there were some days that we got out of the city and to a nice beach house. It was mostly in the city at my partners parents house that was so miserable. but thanks for the comment. Not sure why but I posted this a few weeks ago, and it only just got ok'd to put up.
