Public service announcement regarding LiveJournal's new terms of service [Apr. 14th, 2017|04:44 pm]
Travel talk, tales and tips

As of 04/04/2017, LiveJournal is under the control of SUP Media LLC.

If you would like to review the new Terms of Service before logging into your account, you can read them here.

I am specifically concerned about sections 9.2.7 and 9.2.8. I haven't decided whether to move the community to another platform, shut it down (I'll post a notice if I decide to do this, so people can save their posts), or leave it here. I'm going to think about it for a little while.

I'm disabling comments for this entry because the content is technically off-topic for this community, but since it impacts all users, I wanted to do my part to let people know.

I just want to go to the beach [Jul. 28th, 2016|07:21 pm]
Travel talk, tales and tips

In Jacksonville, I saw a band on the beach. It was ideal. I don't remember hearing the name of the band. At night, I sat down acouple yards from a big rock. Turned out to be a nesting sea turtle. How was I supposed to know? I miss the beach.

I've, in one month. [Feb. 5th, 2015|02:30 am]
Travel talk, tales and tips

I've lost the sky in Toronto.
I've held the steam of Reykjavik.
I've traversed what London is and what it used to be.
I've seduced the gods of Athens.
I've loved above the Persain Gulf in the Emirates.
I've faced my mind in a prison of my own design in Doha.
I've buried the dark of a temple in Colombo.
I've broken the waters of the Maldives.
I've ascended Dawn during dusk in Bangkok.
I've frozen the time and day of Seoul.
I've scorned kin of Death in Honolulu.
I've slashed the planet...
I've forged another life and soul in the embers of my past.

Travel talk, tales and tips

This would be a dangerous place for me to live. A place where there is such a disparity in wealth that maids and servants are at your beck and call to do all the menial things in life. But its those menial tasks, making of food, cleaning dishes, driving a car, doing your laundry, that give me function and a sense of accomplishment during the day. Without them I wither and shrink into my room and cant even be bothered to come out. I hate it here. I hate not being able to open the front door and go out without having the have the maid come and lock it behind me and then open it again when I return. I hate not being able to just go somewhere without having to deal with endless crazy traffic, with people staring, crowds and filth on the streets- trying to explain to drivers where you are trying to go, the heat and dirt and constant noise.

Was already quite hungry after leaving the Ye Chucang Residence.

The foodstalls along the streets are a bad temptation...

The wine region of Priorat, Spain [Sep. 12th, 2014|06:36 pm]
Travel talk, tales and tips

[Tags|, ]

There is a place barely two-hours drive away from Barcelona that enjoys worldwide fame, yet is so barely known to most tourists. Even most Catalans have no idea that in the year 2000 their Priorat received the highly coveted right to put a DOC marking on labels of its wines - the highest honour for a Spanish wine region. This elite list now consists only of two entries in Spain: Rioja and Priorat. (Wine labels are also frequently marked DOQ, which is the same thing, just shortened from Catalan Denominació d´Origen Qualificada instead of Spanish Denominación de Origen Calificada.)

Shanghai Pt 1, Zhou Zhuang Pt 1, China Pt 1 [May. 25th, 2014|12:50 pm]
Travel talk, tales and tips

Well, I thought I would leave this for later. Already planned to write something else but thought I should do this in appreciation for the organizer of the trip.

Am very honoured to be approached by the best low cost carrier of China, Spring Airlines, to be invited as part of the guests with a few other bloggers to experience their inaugural flight from Singapore to Shanghai. It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience because I have never taken an inaugural flight before and this is going to be part of a joyous to commemorate the occasion with the airline. Was invited to their press release and everything was just a breeze as the marketing team settled all the logistics of the trip.
